What will you learn in NMU’s MS in Applied Sport Psychology ?

Courses in the MS in Applied Sport Psychology program dive deep into critical topics like applied sport psychology, positive psychology, sports theory and research, ethics, issues around gender and diversity and principles of positive coaching. Students take a series of core courses and then choose between two concentrations: Clinical Sport Psychology and Positive Coaching.

The Clinical Sport Psychology track prepares you to become a Master’s Limited Psychologist in Michigan by completing three focused courses and a 500-hour psychology practicum. The Positive Coaching concentration prepares graduates for certification as a mental performance consultant through the Association of Applied Sport Psychology. Requirements for psychology licensure are dependent on the state where graduates practice. Students must check into their state’s requirements. The program perfectly fits teachers and coaches seeking a master’s in coaching and those wanting to earn a psychology limited license.

Online MS in Applied Sport Psychology Admission Requirements

Students must comply with the regular admission requirements of the College of Graduate Studies and Research, which includes an undergraduate grade point average of 3.0.  Preference is given to individuals with an undergraduate degree in exercise science, psychology or a related area of study. No GRE is required.

All Applicants must submit:

1. Graduate admission application and fee
2. Official transcripts from all previously attended post-secondary institutions
3. A personal statement outlining their interest in the program, expectations for the program and career goals
4. One letter of recommendation from a professional related to sport or psychology
