How much does it cost to earn a BS in Construction Management at NMU?

Total tuition costs can vary depending on a student’s level of experience. NMU offers up to 9 credits of Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) via competency testing. There are other opportunities for PLA based on the students learning experiences.

Construction Management students are also required to rent a laptop from NMU for many of the courses. These laptops are specially prepared for students with the software programs they will need in their courses.

Online BS in Construction Management Admission Requirements

Are you ready to level-up your construction career? Construction professionals with 7 years of industry experience and the drive to succeed in a competitive industry can earn their online degree with a program that is set up for your success.

Beyond the standard application for admission, the construction management bachelor’s degree requires:

  • Completion of a supplemental application
  • 7 years (post-high school) of documented construction industry experience (or equivalent)
  • Three professional referrals

*Credits for prior experience are awarded based on the satisfactory completion of prior learning assessments, which are administered after admission to the program.

Learn to interpret various construction documents including plans, specifications and
construction manuals. Sample sets of construction documents are interpreted and developed
using computer applications with word processing.

Learn the carpentry tools, terminal and standard practices of construction processes in this
introductory course designed to acquaint students with the building construction process.

CN 152Codes and Inspection ***

Learn the basic requirements and processes for compliance with building construction codes
and ordinances in the Michigan Residential Building Codes. Gain a general understanding of
the relationships and procedures for various regulatory agencies associated with different
compliance requirements. These include, but are not limited to, plan review and inspection
processes. This course is required for student who want to earn a pre-licensure certificate for
the Michigan Residential Builders License.

procedures. Develop knowledge of fundamental principles and good judgment in construction
foundation design supported by experience and scientific data, as well as the relationship

impact on building structural systems.

CN 489Graduation Assessment for CN Majors

All graduating majors must take the major field test in construction management as part of the
Construction Management Program Outcomes Assessment effort. Students take the two-hour
test during final exam week at the end of the semester. This test is given in the final semester
for all graduating seniors. Students must enroll for this course as a co-requisite for graduation
registration as a graduation requirement.
